Stunning new shocker from Laura Rozen
Just got a very interesting unsolicited call from an occasional contact who knows some of these players pretty well. Someone one would more than expect to be extremely friendly to their positions as well. And he told me that:
- The charges against Chalabi passing highly sensitive US intelligence to Iranian intelligence are true.
- It involves a piece or pieces of signals intelligence. Intelligence involving how the US listens to Iranian communications, who it taps, bugging, etc.
- The evidence of Chalabi's intelligence breach came to the US government from a European government. The proof was given to the US by a European government/intelligence agency.
The timing of
Tony Blair's visit with Bush in Washington April 16, 2004 is looking more and more interesting. Since mid-April seems to be the time that
decisively turned the White House against Chalabi. Made it turn on a dime.
So this isn't just temporal classified information like troop movements, but means & methods type of info. This is the kind of stuff that isn't just a short-term tactical loss, but puts us at a serious long term strategic disadvantage as we have to develop entirely new ways of intercepting communications.
It's bad enough that our Iranian operations are comprimised, but if they decide to share or sell this information to other countries (North Korea, Syria) then we are truly fucked.
I am livid. This is the type of thing that will kill lots of americans in the future. This is real treason (as opposed to Coulter's fetid smear against 1/2 the country) and whoever gave Chalabi this information needs to be given the ultimate punishment of death. I'm not being hyperbolic here, I don't care if it's a high level official like Feith, Wolfowitz, etc.., (but heaven forbid the constitutional crises we will be in if it's the freakin Vice-President of the United States Dick Cheney.)
At least it's probably not George "out of the loop" Bush himself since he was apparantly given the information directly from Blair and action was taken as a response. That explains why Rumsfeld wasn't aware of the Chalabi raid.
This makes me ill.
